Haiti - Economy : The planes fly almost empty towards Haiti

For several days, flights to Port-au-Prince, from New York, Boston, Atlanta, Miami and Fort Lauderdale are almost empty because of the crisis, insecurity and violent demonstrations in Haiti.

On the route Atlanta / Port-au-Prince three times a week some flights are only 25% of their capacity, even finding on the line Fort Lauderdale / Port-au-Prince.

A situation that causes a shortfall for Haiti, preoccupies airlines and worries foreigners and the Haitian diapsora who is reluctant to return home or postpone his travels in the hope of better days...

A reduction in passengers that is hurting the tourism sector while some new establishments have not yet reached the breakeven point and are accumulating losses. The reduction of staff has begun among some players in the tourism sector and the risk of losing tens of thousands of jobs that the sector is experiencing is to be feared if the crisis lasts too long...
