Haiti - Social : 2nd day of paralysis in the country...

Despite the call for calm and the promise of a new arrival of gasoline of Government, Port-au-Prince and the main provincial cities of Haiti experienced Tuesday a second consecutive day of demonstrations against the scarcity of fuel and the Government...

In the early hours of the day, vehicles were scarce in the streets of Port-au-Prince, Carrefour, Delmas and Pétion-ville. The streets of the capital were almost deserted, the shops had lowered their iron curtain, to avoid vandalism, the public administration and the banks were closed and the public and private public transport did not work.

If barricades erected the day before had been removed on certain roads, several roads and avenues in the metropolitan area were again blocked by barricades of rocks, large branches and tires on fire, especially on the road to the airport and in Delmas preventing traffic except for a few reckless taxi-bikes...

Demonstrations against the Government continued throughout the day with clashes, stone-throwing and tear gas with the police, amid sporadic gunfire and vandalism, despite the announcement of a fuel delivery on Tuesday, it has not yet reached the service stations, many of which are dry... Meanwhile, on the black market, the precious liquid is sold twice see triple the normal price.

Most private schools announced the closure of their school Tuesday and Wednesday "The current situation requires us to close our doors on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 for the safety of children we take charge," one reads a statement.
