Haiti - Cap-Haïtien : $600,000 from UNDP to compensate communities affected by cholera

As part of a community compensation for cholera victims, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) announces to the Town Hall of Cap-Haitien that an envelope of 600,000 US dollars is available for the city christophienne, information confirmed by Charles Philippe Bernoville, Communication Director of the Cap-Haïtien Toan Hall.

Since June 2019, a team of social mobilizers and UNDP officials have been meeting local elected representatives and community leaders as part of a project to "compensate communities" for cholera victims and reduce risks. of the disease in Haiti.

In the case of Cap-Haïtien, an amount of 150,000 US dollars is available for each communal section and also 150,000 dollars for the city center, which makes 600,000 US dollars in total.

According to the methodology defined by the UNDP, a Platform of 9 members is created for each communal section, in collaboration with the local elected representatives and another for the city center, in collaboration with the Town Hall and the 350th Committee. The 9 members of the Platform are elected by the communities directly or indirectly affected by the disease with the mission of making the link between the UNDP and the populations.

Local elected officials and community leaders prioritize water catchment projects, sanitation, construction of markets or public latrines to improve sanitary conditions in Cap-Haïtien by 2020. On the other hand, it is the identified projects and chosen by cholera victims who will only be funded or executed with the money available.
