Without doubt, the most important event that took place in the diaspora for the Labour Day, was held in Ranchadero, Guayubin rural area, about 60 km from the border Dajabon / Ouanaminthe where more than 2,000 Haitian farm workers have welcomed, this Sunday, May 1, the Minister Edwin Parison, holder of the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), for a revealing celebration of a contrast between the problems reported by various participants relating to the respect of their rights and the joy to see the progress in organizational terms of a community that struggles for its integration and its fair value in Dominican society.

Recognizing the "existing difficulties" the Minister has urged the relevant authorities of both States, to offer a "better attention" to the situation of Haitian workers in Dominican Republic. He particularly stressed the need for a bilateral migration agreement and the ratification by both countries of the International Convention on the Rights of Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. Edwin Paraison firmly believes that each state must assume its responsibilities facing these workers. About Haiti, he said that consular services should be strengthened and improved. About Haiti, he said that consular services should be strengthened and improved. "It is not normal, that in the Dominican reality constants repatriation operations, passport applications in the border area, are treated in Washington" highlighting the cost and time up to three months to get this precious document.

Given the number of applicants for passports, in Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, and the proximity of Haiti, the ideal would be, according to the Minister to transfer this service to the Haitian Embassy in Santo Domingo or to establish a temporary program in this country. Official of the outgoing administration Preval-Bellerive, which prepares the handover of records to the team of President-elect Michel Martelly, Edwin Parison Edwin parison is committed to convey this message to new officials.

Therefore, on behalf of the Government, the holder of MHAVE, gave two plaques of recognition to the leaders of organisations responsible for the realization of the Haitian labour day in this community. Johnny Rivas, President of ASOMILIN, his voice filled with emotion, thanked him for this award, and for the donations of appliances, including: color televisions, fans, irons, ovens, mixers, which were distributed to the participants by lottery. A contribution from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, explained the Minister Parison.

For his part, the Father Regino Martinez, of "Border Solidarity", priest of the town of Dajabon, with nearly 30 years of accompaniment to Haitian workers, has appreciated the official gesture, recognizing his commitment, stressing however, that the island governments must support the efforts of workers to organize, while noting that the presence of the Minister Parison, "known for his activism in favor of human rights is a good sign". The religious want "the continuity of dialogue with the new Haitian authorities to jointly seek solutions to the problems of Haitian immigrants."
