Haiti - Culture : Haiti at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

On Thursday the troubadours Ti-Coca & Wanga-snows have left Port-au-Prince to participate to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, from April 29 to May 1 and May 5 to 8. For its 2011 edition, the festival of jazz of New Orleans honors Haiti and the Haitian culture.

Among Haitian groups invited, there are, in addition to Ti-Coca & Wanga-Nègès : Boukman Eksperyans, Djakout #1, DJA-Rara, Emeline Michel, RAM, Tabou Combo and Wyclef Jean. Artisans will also be present. Different round tables are planned around the historical and cultural relations between Haiti and New Orleans. They will be led by experts such as Joyce Marie Jackson and Gage Averill, ethnomusicologist responsible for the recent reissue of Alan Lomax's work in Haiti.
