Haiti - Politic : Some senators want an investigation

Several senators are favorable to the establishment of a commission of investigation on the rumors, according to which the electoral advisers, including the President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) Gaillot Dorsainvil, would have been paid to change the election results of March 20 in favor of the party INITE.

At his swearing, Senator Youri Latortue declared "Given the persistent rumors, I ask to my colleagues, after the installation of new Bureau, to create a special commission to investigate of the electoral process" a point of view shared by his colleague Sen. William Jeanty which states for his part "It is inconceivable that an institution so precious as the CEP, is thus decried. It is necessary that light be shed on the persistent rumors of embezzlement which splash the members of this institution" while the Senator Edmonde Beauzile said regretted that "today, the parliamentarians from the elections of November and March can not be proud because they are not properly elected"

In a letter, twelve senators asking for their part, the prohibition to leave the country for the electoral advisers and the Director General of the institution, Pierre-Louis Opont in order to shed light on the issues which concern them.

"The responsibles cannot remain unpunished; thus we demand a prohibition to leave the country for all of the members of the CEP and its Director General, until light is shed" stresses the letter.

One of main concerns, Mr. Opont also supports the creation of a commission of investigation "That will confirm or deny rumors that I heard myself like everyone" adding that "this is a electoral apparatus where it is claimed that decisions were monetized, Final decisions are not what they should be. The results do not respect the vote expressed it is an extremely complex case that goes beyond a corruption case", dismissing the idea of an intervention of the Unit for Combating Corruption (ULCC) in this case.

Following the publication of these results the advisor Ginette Chérubin had resigned and affirmed her disagreed with the other members of the CEP.
