Haiti - Education : Training of Public Administration

The eight centers of the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) is launching a training program in Haiti to strengthen local government and institutions of higher education to meet the most urgent needs and development.

Wednesday, Dídac Ramirez, Rector of the University of Barcelona (UB) and President of the ACUP; ; Barcelona Mayor Jordi Hereu and Jaume Lanaspa the Director of the Foundation "La Caixa" have agreed to fund this project, of a period of five years. To this end, La Caixa has allocated a sum of 225.485 euros for 2011 and 2012.

This initiative will enable the training of elected in the South-East of the country as well as teachers, educators and persons responsible for training municipal technicians. In addition, this program will promote e-learning to contribute to the development of the Digital University in Haiti, will strengthen the institutional capacity of Haitian universities and agencies responsible for their management and will improve the capacity of these institutions to train the staff of the public administrations.
