From 3 to 5 July 2019 in Saint Lucia, will be held the 40th ordinary meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)...

The unique market and economy, which aims to facilitate the free flow of goods and people, as well as the situation in Venezuela and Haiti are on the agenda of this meeting.

Caribbean country leaders will try to move forward until next Friday on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), which they see as the best opportunity to facilitate economic development of the region in a global environment mutating. On the eve of this important press conference, Irwin LaRocque, the Secretary General of CARICOM, said about the objective of the CSME "[...] we will get up-to-date information on what has been done and what has not been done,"recognizing that progress towards a single market has not been as numerous as desired.

"The question of the inclusion of some CARICOM territories on the European Union blacklist, because they would not be transparent enough in terms of tax and banking regulations, will also be one of the topics discussed in the meeting," said La Rocque, adding that the Caribbean countries had put in place a strategy to solve the problem of registration as tax havens by the EU and would continue to denounce a situation they consider unfair.

He also indicated that he hoped to obtain from the President of Haiti Jovenel Moïse, first-hand information on the evolution of the situation in Haiti where the opposition forces have been organizing street demonstrations for several weeks to drive him out of the power.

On Venezuela, the Secretary General of CARICOM said that the three leaders appointed by the regional group to address the issue will report on their work, adding that in any case CARICOM remained committed to non-interference and non-intervention, as well as the promotion of a peaceful dialogue in Venezuela.
