Haiti - Weather : Floods in the metropolitan area, partial assessment

Following torrential rains that hit the west department on the evening of Tuesday, July 2, the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) informs that flash floods have caused urban flooding in the metropolitan area of ​​Port-au-Prince.

At Pèlerin 1 (Pétion-ville commune), the flash floods caused the fall of a retaining wall which in turn led to the destruction of a dozen small houses. No deaths were reported and rescue operations carried out jointly by several relief units of the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC), the National Ambulance Center (CAN), the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and some private providers have evacuated 7 seriously wounded to hospitals in the capital.

In the commune of Carrefour, the Communal Committee of the Civil Protection reports several houses flooded and the evacuation of their inhabitants in place on.

Emergency teams remain mobilized and the damage assessment is still underway for the publication of a consolidated balance sheet as soon as possible.

The DPC calls for vigilance the populations of these communes and other areas at risk of flooding, landslides... in the country and asks them to apply scrupulously the practical safety instructions in case of showers and thunderstorms.
