Haiti - Politic : Dialogue, failure of the US Department of State

Monday Julie Chung, Senior Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Western Hemisphere Affairs Office at the US Department of State, was in visits Haiti to try to convince the protagonists to engage in dialogue to resolve the crisis, according to the US Embassy in Haiti.

Julie Chung spoke in the morning with senators Patrice Dumont and Joseph Lambert, and mayors Wilson Jeudy (Delmas) and Rosemila Petit-Frère (Arcahaie) and with Eric Jean-Baptiste, Secretary General of the Rally of National Democrats Progressives (RDNP) and Yvon Feuillé, member of the Fanmi Lavalas Party.

No conclusive results emerged from these meetings. Senator Patrice Dumont claims to have told Ms. Chung that President Jovenel Moïse had to resign first and foremost, advocating a "New Deal" with the international.

Julie Chung was scheduled to meet with business representatives and civil society members on Monday afternoon. The National Palace at the end of the day had still not communicated on a possible meeting between President Jovenel Moïse and the Representative of the US Department of State.
