Haiti - CSPJ : The persistence of socio-political instability threatens the sovereignty of the country

In a note on the situation published this week, the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) deplores the climate of socio-political unrest that has affected the country for months, causing heavy loss of life, injuries, property damage important and damage to the Haitian economy considerable.

The CSPJ recognizes that the fight against corruption is the main motive for social mobilization and calls on "all the powers of the State and all sectors of national life to recognize the imperative of the fight against corruption" and recalls that "[...] any lasting solution to the present crisis necessarily entails the advent of a new moral order and justice to prevent and punish corruption in all its dimensions."

The CSPJ stresses that "[...] The persistence of the climate of socio-political agitation can jeopardize sovereignty and democratic gains."

As Co-Depositary of National Sovereignty (Articles 59 and 60 of the Constitution) the CSPJ asks President Jovenel Moïse "[...] to ensure the proper functioning of the institutions of the republic, according to the Constitution, to make a deep analysis of the situation and draw the necessary conclusions, in the best interest of the Nation."
