Haiti - Environment : Success of a sanitation project in Martissant

Given the mismanagement of the waste and the various health and environmental problems in Martissant, particularly because of the increasing number of wild deposits and gullies clogged, the community component of the Urban Management of Proximity (GUP) project at Parc de Martissant lauched at the begenning of May be a labor-intensive sanitation activities in the localities Cashew, Descayettes, Ti Bois, Deslouis, Jeannot and Baigne.

This activity, which is also part of a contribution to strengthening the family, developing social cohesion and improving the living environment of the population in general, which mobilized 13 teams of 11 people during 10 days, was mainly aimed at cleaning up the neighborhood by eliminating the wild deposit sites, to the benefit and with the help of local residents and allowed to evacuate 320 m3 of waste... In addition, the activity temporarily mobilized a computer scientist, a logistics manager, a first aid attendant and a site supervisor.

Edson Lubin, Project Manager, convinced that our waste can be useful explained "In parallel with its remediation responsibilities, the GUP in its desire to recover and value waste, experiments with the transformation of solid and organic waste, either in Decorative arts, compost with school children, teachers, volunteers and members of community organizations."
