Haiti - Security : 101 people died in 3 months victims of violence

Haiti's self-reliant population is helpless to the rise of insecurity in the country. Every day, violent deaths by bullets or knives are recorded. For the period from January to March 2019, 101 people lost their lives including 13 police officers (+ 2 in April), an average of 33 people per month reveals the latest report of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) entitled "Chaotic situation of human rights in Haiti and State banditry"

According to the RNDDH, gang leaders openly expose their firepower, claiming that they far exceed those of the police institution.

In its report the RNDDH draws a detailed and icy review of the violent situation in Haiti, with all the details resulting from its field investigations.

The RNDDH also denounces the practices of the company EDH which "In several regions of the country, as Carrefour-Feuilles and in the village de Dieu, the EDH company uses armed men to encourage the population to pay its consumption of electricity."

Spaces hosting hospitals and health centers are not protected. Cases of aggression against doctors or persons admitted to receive care are now legion

RNDDH considers that from January 2019 to the present, no concrete measures have been taken by the authorities concerned to ensure the safety of citizens, improve the socio-economic situation of the country and respect, in general, the human rights in Haiti. As far back as Haitians remember, the country had never been so low in terms of insecurity, corruption in state institutions and state delinquency as it was in poverty.
