Haiti - Security : Holy Week, 39 accidents, 177 victims

According to the former Director of the National Ambulance Center, Garnel Michel Coordinator of the Haitian Organization Technical and Operational Services for Accident Relief (STOP-Accidents) during Holy Week (April 14 to 21, 2019) 39 road accidents resulted in 177 victims including 161 injured including children and a pregnant woman and 16 deaths at the scene including 6 young people around 20 years

STOP-Accident points out that 124 of the victims (70%) were involved in motorcycle accidents

Garnel Michel said that these accidents occurred on the Road of Labadee, Morne Casse, Ouanaminthe, Camp-Perrin, Raboteau, Saint-Marc, Montrouis, Leogane, Les Cayes, Jacmel, Jean Rabe and Bon repos and reiterated his appeal to users caution and the authorities concerned to assume their responsibilities by taking the necessary measures to limit the number of traffic accidents.

This assessment was conducted in partnership with the National Ambulance Center and the Haitian Red Cross. However, due to a lack of resources, the STOP-Accident organization is unable to monitor the state of health of the wounded, some of whom die as a result of their injuries and are not counted.
