Haiti - Justice : The United States returns to Haiti 19 ex-convicts

According to the priority of expulsion of aliens who pose a threat to public safety, U.S. immigration authorities have deported 19 Haitians previously convicted for crimes in the United States. A spokesman of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) declared that the 19 Haitians deported Friday, April 14, 2011, had all been recognized guilty, by the justice, to have committed at least one serious crime in the U.S. This is the second time since the beginning of the year that Haitians are expelled, the first time, on January 20 and 26 Haitians were concerned...

Washington is committed to expel for the moment only the criminals who have served their sentences. But all illegal Haitians or allowed provisionally after the earthquake, could also be affected later this year...

The American Commission on Human Rights and prominent Catholic bishops protested vigorously, since the resumption of deportations by the United States in January 2011. These actors of the national life, underscore the crisis and the insecurity in Haiti and describe these deportations as irresponsible and inhumane. They ask the US Government the immediate cessation of such practices.
