One year after the entry into force of the migration regularization plan, Andrés Chadwick, the Chilean Minister of the Interior, presented a report showing that at the end of 2014 there were fewer than 500,000 foreigners in Chile and that by the end of 2018 this number exceeded 1.25 million.

Minister Chadwick, explained this figure represents the equivalent of two cities like Valparaíso generating challenges and opportunities for the country and society.

He said that by 2018, the number of visa applications had increased by 48% in Venezuela, followed by Peru, Haiti and Colombia. As of March 31, 2019, 87% had been processed and 57,400 visas had been issued. 17,000 requests were rejected for non-compliance. He pointed out that by 2018, the growth in visa demand had been exponential mainly because of the high flows of Venezuelan migrants who enter as tourists to subsequently request a change in residence.

Main diasporas in Chile :

1 - Venezuela: 288,233 citizens;

2 - Peru: 223,923 citizens;

3 - Haiti: 179,338 citizens;

4 - Colombia: 146,582.

Chadwick points out that 60% of foreigners residing in Chile are between 20 and 39 years old and 51% are men.
