Following the vote of the deputies, on March 26th, a proposal for a law revising the minimum wage that proposes an increase of the minimum wage of the workers of the outsourcing of 78,5% https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27295-haiti-politic-revised-minimum-wages-according-to-the-bill-voted-by-the-deputies.html ; the Dominican businessman Fernando Capellàn, President of "Groupe M" and of the Industrial Development Company (CODEVI) located in the Ouanaminthe free zone, which currently employs more than 11,000 Haitians in the textile sector more 20% of the 52,950 existing jobs in this sector in Haiti wrote to the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH).

In this correspondence, Fernando Capellan is surprised "[...] of the unilateral decision and the proposal presented by the Chamber of Deputies concerning a 78% increase in the minimum wage without taking into account the negative impact that this could have massive lay-offs and even the potential exit of investors and companies that will seek a more stable and economically feasible location in the region [...]"

While offering his support "always ensuring the best interest of the thousands of jobs that are under serious threat today," he asked on behalf of the industrial sector, the urgent intervention of the Haitian institutions concerned in this situation that he calls "extremely serious"

"We call on the ADIH and the CSS (Superior Council of Wages) to promote a rally of the three sectors concerned, government authorities, the private sector and trade unions, so that all analyze, discuss and reach strong wages negotiated for the next 5 years on the basis of inflation and other economic factors and official indicators of the Central Bank "

Recall that the company CODEVI anticipates creating in 2019, 14,000 additional jobs in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27320-haiti-dr-codevi-will-create-14-000-new-jobs-this-year.html which would make it the largest employer of the textile industry in Haiti.
