Haiti - Education : Towards the strengthening of presbyteral schools

On Friday, officials from the Ministry of National Education and representatives of the Episcopal Commission for Catholic Education (CEEC) held a working session on a draft agreement on the strengthening of presbyteral schools. It was for the leaders of these two institutions to agree on the content of the document that will outline the cooperation for the benefit of children attending the presbyteral schools. To this end, under instruction of Minister Cadet, a Mixed Commission was set up to elaborate the terms of this agreement.

This session, moderated by Jacques Yvon Pierre, Technical Coordinator in the Minister's Office, was attended by several members of the cabinet, the cluster coordinator, Jacques François, members of the Communication Bureau and representatives of the CEEC. At this meeting, Msgr. Pierre André Dumas, President of the CCEC, paid a courtesy visit to encourage the parties to finalize the text of the agreement, which aims to improve the supervision of presbyteral schools by focusing on the quality of learning.

At the end of this session, the text was validated by the participants with some changes to be made for purposes of clarifying certain elements.

Learn more about presbyteral schools :

These schools, created by priests in some parishes of the Catholic Church across the country, supplement the shortage of school provision at the State level and largely serve disadvantaged urban and rural strata. The first of its kind were established following the convention of August 4, 1913 concluded between the Haitian State and the Catholic Church.

It should be noted that the latest survey conducted by the CEEC revealed the existence, at the national level, of 1,140 presbyteral schools attended by just over 602,000 students and mobilizing approximately 8,000 teachers.
