Haiti - Elections :

During a visit to Miami yesterday, the winner of the second round of presidential elections, Michel Martelly has declared "She made the right decision not to contest", in response to the decision of Mirlande Manigat who said earlier "No, I does not challenge the election, but we protest", she is dissatisfied with the way the election was held and does not protest because she does not trust the process. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-2699-haiti-elections-manigat-does-not-challenge-she-protests.html

During his visit to Florida, among other Martelly visited the newspaper The Miami Herald, where he reiterated his desire to focus on the country's reconstruction and of its economy after his inauguration next month. He also said that his victory puts him in position to "do more for the Haitian people". Regarding job creation he said in an interview that he will strengthen the agricultural sector and focus on peasants because "they have been left out". He also recalled that Haiti is in a rebuilding phase, and that jobs will be created through the efforts underway to rebuild the capital, Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.

Michel Martelly would not speculate on who will be the next Prime Minister of Haiti but has nevertheless said that Jean-max Bellerive is a "talented politician", adding that "It's not about whose going to be prime minister, it's about how we're going to change the lives of the Haitian people". When asked if he would work with Duvalier, he answered "I don’t prioritize ideology, I prioritize competence".
