Haiti - Health : Beginning of the decentralization of health services

Three departments of the country, Southeast, Grand Anse and Northwest, have been selected for the project "Partnership for the development of health departments" presented yesterday by the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP ) together with UNICEF and the European Agency for Development and Health (AEDES).

According to Dr. Gabriel Timothée, Director General of MSPP, the project initiated and funded by UNICEF to the tune of $ 5 million over 5 years, will help increase the response capacity of the Ministry with the population and improve collaboration with its partners. The Director General stated that technical staff and equipment will be sent to these departments in order to result in the autonomy of these departments in terms of health.

Françoise Gruloos Ackermans, the UNICEF Representative in Haiti, has promised to support the MSPP and all institutions involved in this project and hoped that the project "Partnership for the development of health departments" plays a key role in in the health decentralization of Haiti by facilitating access to health care to the population.
