Haiti - Politic : Parliamentary Calendar

The final election results expected on April 16, should be published in the Official Gazette [Le Moniteur] this April 18 or 48 hours after the display by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).

The welcoming activities of the newly elected [11 new senators and 99 deputies] that will integrate the two Houses are scheduled from April 19 to 21 during this period, will be held the the registration process and the training and information seminars to all levels.

The credentials and the sworn should take place on April 25 according to the parliamentary calendar. The election of members of the new office is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26 and the first meeting of the National Assembly of the 49th Legislature, Wednesday, April 27, 2011.

This first session of the 49th Legislature will allow, to launch the work of amending of the constitution. Kelly Bastien, the President of the Senate recognizes that the legislators have little time to analyze the many items to change in the constitution. Also, to facilitate this work in this short period, the President of the Senate announced that copies of the document will be sent to elected parliamentarians prior to their investiture.

The parliamentarians should vote the amendment of the constitution until the inauguration of the next head of State expected on May 14, 2011. A vote is likely to be agitated, given differing views on the constitutionality of these amendments.
