On Saturday, for the third consecutive day, many demonstrations demanding the departure of President Jovenel Moïse paralyzed most of the activities in the metropolitan area and major provincial towns. Several thousand people marched through the streets of the capital. Very few neighborhoods in the metropolitan area were spared by the protesters. Most service stations, banks, schools and businesses remained closed.

In Port-au-Prince, several spontaneous demonstrations have been reported. At least one person was killed and another was shot and wounded Saturday afternoon in the city center, during protests against corruption, mismanagement of the Government, insecurity, high cost of living, demanding the resignation of the Head of State.

The police had to use their weapons by firing live ammunition to disperse hundreds of angry protesters who had gathered in front of the hospital where the bodies had been transported.

In the afternoon, Port-au-Prince was gradually blocked by barricades of burning tires, car carcasses, branches and rocks. In the Champ de Mars, police used tear gas to disperse protesters who threw stones and other objects at them.

Public transport was rare, but the motorcycle taxi more numerous than the day before. There are many acts of vandalism, especially on parked cars and stone throwing on businesses.

At Carrefour, thousands of highly motivated protesters stormed the concrete to demand the Head of State's departure chanting anti-government slogans, erecting barricades, throwing stones at a police force powerless to restore order. It is reported that individuals at "Carrefour Tifou" prevented the delivery of petroleum products to a service station by threatening to set fire of it. Recall that because of the demonstrations, the largest fuel terminal in Haiti, located in the commune, has been unable to supply the country with fuel for 3 days...

In Pétion-ville, protesters blocked access to the Kenscoff road leading to Pélerin where is the residence of Jovenel Moïse. In Pilgrim 5, barricades of burning tires had been erected and panic situations reported following gunshots. The house of President Moïse was the target of stone throwing, apparently following an incident with one of the security agents of the procession of former Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant who allegedly assaulted a lady on the road to Pilgrim, throwing stones against the procession of the former Prime Minister who was on the road leading to the residence of the Head of State. During this clash, a Lafontant security officer shot and injured a motorcyclist.

The opposition leaders intend to continue the mobilization until the departure of the Head of State and promise that the population will be back on the streets this Sunday, February 10 and that the demonstrations will intensify, rejecting any proposed dialogue or negotiations. by President Jovenel Moïse.

For its part, Famni Lavalas who surfs the wave of popular discontent, calls on the population to remain mobilized until the resignation of the Government in place
