Haiti - Politic : The 49th Legislature should approve the dual citizenship

During the annual conference on the reconstruction of Haiti, held for the second time this year at the Convention Center of Miami, Edwin Parison, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad, (MHAVE) has declared Monday that the major political issues of the diaspora should be a priority for the 49th Legislature [fixed after the publication of final election results scheduled for April 16].

According to Minister Parison "the executive has done its job by submitting a draft constitutional reform integrating the issue of dual nationality," claimed by the Haitians who have acquired another nationality or citizens of Haitian origin born abroad enjoying of right of the soil (jus soli) without be able at the same time to keep their Haitian nationality through the right of blood (jus sanguinis). "From the decision that will be taken by the 49th Legislature, this problem will be solved" argues the Minister confident that "more than ever, the political climate is now fully favorable to the Diaspora..." Edwin Paraison confident, also stressed the promises on this issue made ​​by the two presidential candidates, before that the vistoire Michel Martelly is known.

The Minister recalled that the financial assistance of the diaspora has been important for the campaigns of candidates, and this at all levels during the election, saying that although this assistance was higher for the presidential candidates, the members of Diaspora have also contributed financially with candidates in the senate and the deputation.
