Haiti - Europe : 7.6 million euros from the European Union for Haiti

On Wednesday, Ambassador Vincent Degert of the European Union, accompanied by several members of the European delegation, met with more than a hundred representatives of Haitian and European civil society as well as national and international organizations came to attend a meeting of interactive information (questions and answers) on two new calls for proposals that the European Union is launching for a global amount of nearly 7.6 million euros, including 2.5 million euros for culture only.

The calls are divided into five batches (sub-calls) that cover : combating the effects of climate change, protecting the environment, combating violence against women, culture and finally, fighting against prolonged pre-trial detention and improved conditions of detention.

On this occasion, Ambassador Degert said "The solidarity that underpins development cooperation is expressed through different channels. Alongside the strong and consistent support we provide to the State, we are also committed to the specific role of civil society organizations, sometimes in partnership with other actors, State or international, to carry the aspirations of citizens and carry out concrete actions on their behalf."

Learn more about the call for proposals :

"The Call for Proposals is a competitive and transparent selection process to ensure equal opportunity. Moreover, by dividing the two calls into several batches and setting limits for grants, the European Union wants to allow more projects to become a reality. Depending on the lots, the subsidies that will be allocated vary between 300,000 and 625,000 Euros.

Note that the European Union is asking future beneficiaries who will be selected to redistribute part of the grant to other initiatives. This so-called "cascading grant" mechanism enables the selected sectors to be efficiently irrigated by supporting initiatives of organizations that need a boost to deploy but do not necessarily yet have all the administrative capacity and financial to manage a larger project."
