Haiti - Cholera Epidemic : The report of the independent experts published soon... 26/03/2011 10:41:01
Sylvie Van den Wildenberg, the spokeswoman of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) has confirmed this week that the independent group of experts, appointed last January by Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary General, in charge to determine the origin of cholera in Haiti, is finalizing their report. "The work of ground has ended for approximately 3 weeks" affirmed the spokeswoman who promises that this report will be published once delivered to the office of Secretary General of the UN in New York. Ce groupe d’experts, dirigé par le docteur mexicain Alejandro Craviolo qui travaille auprès du Centre international de recherche pour la diarrhée au Bangladesh, comprend également les docteurs Claudio Lanata de l'Institut d'enquête nutritionnelle du Pérou, Daniele Lantagne des Etats-Unis travaillant à l'Université d'Harvard et Balakrish Nair d'Inde travaillant à l'Institut national du choléra et des maladies entériques. This team of independent experts, is led by Dr. Alejandro Cravioto of Mexico, from the International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research in Bangladesh. The other three members are Claudio Lanata of the Instituto de Investigacion Nutritional in Peru, Daniele Lantagne of Harvard University in the United States, and Balakrish Nair of the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases in India. Last cholera assessment : since the beginning of the cholera epidemic in Haiti (October 19, 2010), 261.985 people were infected and treated, 140.646 people were hospitalized and 4.737 people died.
