Haiti - Culture : Launch of the reconstruction works of the ENARTS

Monday, Jean Michel Lapin, the Minister of Culture accompanied by its Director General Yves Pénel and his Director of Cabinet, Pradel Henriquez, in the presence of Philippe Dodard, the Director General of the National School of Arts (ENARTS) proceeded, to the laying of the foundation stone for the reconstruction of ENARTS, a 35-year-old institution.

Phase I, of the 3-storey building to house the school will take 4 months. The overall project that will be executed by the firm Construction F&F, provides, among other things, a library / media library, an auditorium, a computer lab, a gym and a mini theater with recording studio.

In his remarks, Minister Lapin indicated that his position on the ENARTS had not changed, stating that "the demands of the students were justified" adding that the rehabilitation of the National School of Arts is a priority of the Government, assuring that "there will be no discontinuities" in the reconstruction work that will take place in 4 phases.

Let's recall that a crisis resulting from a protest movement of students, who demanded reforms within the ENARTS, had forced the closure of the School for nearly 13 months. The administrative activities were resumed following a memorandum of understanding initialed in April 2018 after long discussions between the various protagonists. The academic reopening is scheduled for January 2019 in another local, according to what Dodard said.
