Haiti - DR : Investigation of the destruction by Haitians of certain boundary markers

A Commission composed of senior officers from the Cartographic Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and the Dominican Navy, went to the border area at the pyramid #1 of the municipality of Manzanillo, Montecristi, to investigate the allegations according to which Haitian citizens would enter the Dominican territory to destroy pyramids delimiting the 388 km of borders separating the two countries from the mouth of the river Massacre to Manzanillo to the Pedernales river according to the Aranjuez treaty between Spain and France.

Several people residing in Manzanillo were questioned by the officers. Members of the Military Commission said they would then go to the community of Sánchez, in Dajabón, where the destruction of pyramids was reported.

The survey included an examination of the existing 313 pyramids, beginning at Montecristi, where the #1 and ending at Pedernales with pyramid #313.

The intervention of the Dominican authorities was decided following the multiplication of reactions and complaints from the border populations who deplore that the symbols that indicate the territorial boundaries of the two countries, are being destroyed voluntarily by Haitians.
