Haiti - Tourism : An optimistic vision of the new Minister

Thursday, as part of the World Tourism Day, the new Minister of Tourism Marie Christine Stephenson, who is currently attending the 40th edition of the international exhibition Top Resa 2018 in Paris (Porte de Versailles) said "It is essential for us to think about the means to put in place to offer our visitors an unforgettable experience by raising our requirements on the quality of our welcome [...] the World Organization of Tourism (OMT) advance the figure of 1.8 billion tourists in 2018 in the world. We must put all the chances on our side to capture more of this flow while preserving our ecosystems and our cultural identity.

[...] Thanks to the major tourist projects that are already underway in both North and South [?], With the support and confidence of our development partners, particularly the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, by 2020 we will be equipped with the best infrastructure, equipment and attractions of sufficient size to reposition us in the long term on the map of world tourism."

Projecting in 2 years the Minister anticipates "We will focus by 2020 not only on establishing mass hotels, but on human-sized facilities, developing innovative green energy solutions, setting up waste management systems and efficient sanitation and respectful of the principles of sustainable development"

Addressing the use of new technologies in the service of tourism, she explains "using digital applications instead of the classic paper format, La Ferrière Citadelle World Heritage of Humanity, will be accessible to all virtually, as well as the tourist circuits of the South for travelers and dreamers on smartphone. Thanks to digital tools, our culture, like our sublime sandy beaches will be part of the common heritage and will be protected and enhanced at their true value, [...] the Tourism of Haiti will be placed in the coming years under the sign of innovation, creativity and resilience !"
