Haiti - Weather : Passage of a tropical wave, sustained rains and thunderstorms...

The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) invites the population of areas at high risk of flood, landslide, rock falls, to take the necessary precautions against the passage of a tropical wave, this weekend on Haiti.

The National Hydro Meteorological Unit (HMN) announced Thursday that stormy showers were expected in places, including Friday and this weekend during the passage of a tropical wave. Several departments, such as the Center, Grand'Anse, West and Southeast should receive sustained rainfall.

Therefore, the DPC calls on the populations of the exposed areas to remain cautious and to scrupulously apply safety instructions in the event of floods, rockfalls or landslides. Ir asks them among others to :

  • Regularly follow the weather information, radio and TV but also on the Internet to be well informed ;

  • Place your important papers and things above the level that the waters could reach, or if possible upstairs ;

  • Make arrangements to evacuate your home, if the authorities request it, or if the water level and the fragility of the soil require them, especially if you live in a high-risk area, near a ravine, a stream of water or a beach, or even on the mountainside...

The DPC recalls that the hurricane season is approaching its second half in the Caribbean and Atlantic and will continue until November. Also, citizens must continue to prepare daily and follow the precautionary guidelines.
