Haiti - Economy : Monthly inflation accelerates + 1.5% in July

For the month of July 2018, the General Consumer Price Index (base 100 in August 2004) amounted to 354.9 against 349.5 in June, showing an increase in inflation of + 1.5% on a monthly basis, compared to 1.3% the previous month https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25048-haiti-economy-increase-in-inflation-13-annual.html . Year on year (last 12 months) inflation reached 13.6% against 13.0% the previous month.

This monthly increase of + 1.5% is mainly the result of the behavior of consumption indices: "Food, drinks and tobacco" (+ 1.7%), "Clothing and fabrics, shoes" (+ 1.9%), "Rent of housing, Energy and Water "(+ 1.7%)," Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance "(1.6%) and" Health "(+ 1.6%).

The upward change in the "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" index, which accounts for over 50% of the household budget, comes from, among other things, the increase in rice prices (+ 2.9%), millet (+ 3.4%), maize grain (+ 1.4%), spaghetti (+ 1.4%), cornflakes (+ 1.4%), meat on average (+ 2.3%), fresh fish (+ 1.5%), herring (+ 2.8%), cod (+ 2.3%), eggs (+ 1.9%), coconut (+ 1.8%), avocado (+ 1.7%), banana ( + 1.4%), mirliton (+ 1.8%), green peas (+ 1.3%), cabbage (+ 1.5%), carrots (+ 1.5%), tomatoes (+ 1.7%), organic peas yams (+ 1.9%), malanga (+ 2.0%), cassava (+ 1.5%), potatoes (+ 2.0%), potatoes (+ 1.4%), papaya (+1.7%) %), lemon (+ 1.4%), raw sugar (+ 1.5%) and other alcoholic beverages (+ 2.3%).

The rise in the "Apparel and Fabrics, Footwear" index comes from the variation in product prices such as: fabrics (+ 1.9%), suits, universal jackets (+ 1.9%), shirts (+ 2.0%), men's trousers (+ 1.9%), t-shirt (+ 2.2%), underpants (+ 2.2%), dress (+ 2.4%), women's t-shirt (+ 2.6%), clothing manufacturing (+ 1.9%) and sandals (+ 1.8%).

The increase in the index "rent of housing, energy and water" comes from the rent of housing (+ 1.9%) of water supply (+ 1.4%) and charcoal (+ 4.1%).

The increase in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance" index comes mainly from the rise in living room furniture (+ 1.6%), the dining room (+ 1.6%), the mattress (+ 1.8%), bed linen (+ 3.1%), curtains (+ 2.3%), tablecloth (+ 4.2%), towels (+ 2.6%), hand-crafted stoves (+ 2.0%), insecticide ( + 2.3%) and disinfectant (+ 2.8%).

Finally, the increase in the "Health" index is attributable to the increase in drug prices (+ 0.9%), fees paid to doctors (+ 2.2%) and laboratory analysis, radiography (+ 1.5% ).
