Haiti - FLASH : Moïse chooses Jean Henry Céant as new Prime Minister

"Following consultations with the Presidents of the two branches of Parliament, I have chosen the citizen Jean Henry Céant as new Prime Minister," announced the President of the Republic of Haiti Jovenel Moïse, following a two-day consultation with the presidents of both branches of parliament, and many sectors of national life in the last 3 weeks, after the resignation of Jack Guy Lafontant, following an increase in petroleum products, and the withdrawal of the messure by the Government.

Jean-Henry Céant, was born on September 27, 1956 in Goureau, district of the Croix-des-Missions, commune of Tabarre (Haiti), is a Haitian political personality who was enrolled in the quest for the permanent change of the conditions of life of Haitians. He was a candidate for the Presidency of Haiti for the November 2010 elections under the banner of the political group "Renmen Ayiti", also that of 2016.

Recall that according to Article 137 of the Constitution: The President of the Republic chooses a Prime Minister from among the members of the party having a majority in Parliament. In the absence of this majority, the President of the Republic chooses his Prime Minister in consultation with the President of the Senate and that of the Chamber of Deputies.

In both cases the choice must be ratified by Parliament.

For his part, Senator Joseph Lambert recalled "The choice of the Prime Minister depends strictly on the President of the Republic. The member of the cabinet remains at the discretion of the President of the Republic and his Prime Minister."
