Haiti - Social : 40% of mobile canteens destroyed during the riots

Monday at a press conference, Charles Ernest Chatelier Director General of the Fund for Economic and Social Assistance (FAES), announced that the sub-program "Mobile canteen" a component of the "Kore Pèp" program was suspended temporarily since the riots of 6 to July 8, depriving thousands of beneficiaries of a daily hot meal.

He explained that during the violent events of early July, 5 out of the 12 mobile canteens available for the whole country as well as 5 FAES trucks and various materials, had been destroyed (vandalized and burned) at the PNCS premises where they were stored

Deploring a major loss for the Haitian state without being able to quantify it, not having in hand the complete evaluation of the damage, Charles Ernest Chatelier ensures that arrangements are already made to resume this program as soon as possible and that a team worked tirelessly towards this goal, without specifying a date for the resumption of this sub-program.

In addition, he confirmed that provisions have been adopted to reach more than 100,000 beneficiaries with mobile canteens across the country, recalling that from October 2017 to June 2018, 229,000 hot dishes had been distributed throughout the country.

In addition, he said that the FAES intends to continue its efforts in the distribution of solidarity baskets (food kits) for the benefit of the poor to relieve their misery, saying that "Nearly 860,000 baskets of solidarity had already been distributed through the country."
