Haiti - Health : Psychological care for children

The Association Navarra Nuevo Futuro has launched two projects to support the child population in Haiti, focusing on social and psychological care and nutrition and health programs. Concretely, in Croix-des-Bouquets, the association has installed three support centres in the three main schools of the city, offering social and psychological care to children but also to their families.

This initiative also aims to train school teachers, local authorities and managers of host center, to the detection of children who were traumatized by the earthquake and who are psychologically affected by the changes during this period.

In total, it is expected that over 3,500 children and their families will benefit from this project that the Association Navarra Nuevo Futuro established with the Haitian Institute of Integral Development (IHDI) and with financial support from the Spanish Agency for Development and Cooperation (AECID).

In addition to this program, "Nuevo Futuro" working in the field of health and nutrition to Delmas 33, area that hosts a large number of camps. This action aims to improve the health of children in this area and also of their family, through the structure of the Medi-Care Hospital.

The project also aims to promote the development of targeted nutrition programs for vulnerable populations, and the conduct of awareness campaigns on water management, hygiene, food handling and prevention and the care during pregnancy and lactation.
