Haiti - DR : Nearly 70,000 Haitians deported or returned in Haiti during the 1st semester

The Directorate of Dominican Migration (DGM) continues to increase migration control operations for Haitians living illegally in Dominican territory and border operations against illegal entry attempts.

During the first 6 of the year (January to June 2018) nearly 70,000 Haitians were deported or returned to Haiti.

In June, nearly 12,000 Haitians were returned to Haiti, 7,000 Haitians were turned back at the border trying to enter illegally or illegally on Dominican territory and nearly 5,000 others living illegally on Dominican territory (some for a few months others for more than 10 years), were deported after being controlled as illegal according to DGM information.

In May, nearly 11,000 Haitians were returned to Haiti (6,000 Haitians were turned back at the border and nearly 5,000 others living illegally in the Dominican Republic, were deported) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24707-haiti-dr-more-than-11-000-haitians-deported-or-repressed-in-haiti-may-2018.html

In April, nearly 11,500 were returned to Haiti (5,800 Haitians were turned back at the border and nearly 5,600 others living illegally in the Dominican Republic, were deported) https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-24287-icihaiti-dr-nearly-10-000-haitians-deported-or-returned-to-haiti-april-2018.html

For the first 3 months of the year nearly 35,000 Haitians were deported during migration controls or expelled to the border https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24025-haiti-dr-nearly-35-000-haitians-deported-or-turned-back-in-haiti-since-the-beginning-of-the-year.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23748-haiti-rd-nearly-7-500-haitians-deported-to-haiti-or-turned-back.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23510-haiti-flash-nearly-16-000-haitians-deported-or-expelled-from-the-dominican-territory-in-january.html

It should be noted that from July 2015 to March June 2018 at the official and unofficial border points of the border, nearly 300,000 Haitians were deported or returned to Haiti.

Moreover, it should be remembered that the National Plan for the Regulation of Abroad and the extension of temporary residence cards granted to Haitians included in this plan will expire on August 26, 2018. Most of the 239,000 Haitians who have not been able to regularize will be then under threat of deportation. It is urgent that the Haitian authorities enter into discussion with the Dominican State to avoid a possible massive repatriation in the coming months.
