Haiti - Riots : Message from the Mayor of Port-au-Prince

Ralph Youri Chevry, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince wishes to inform the population that the municipal authorities are following closely the evolution of the recent events which have taken place in the capital and in the different cities of the country since last Friday.

"Mayor Chevry deplores the acts of violence perpetrated against certain people, businesses and private properties and expresses his sympathies to the victims. However, he recognizes the legitimate and inalienable right of the population to protest peacefully against any measures it deems unfair and inappropriate. While recognizing this right, he wishes to recall that he has received from this same population the mandate to ensure his well being and ensure the proper management of the capital.

"Mayor Chevry is committed to informing the citizens of Port-au-Prince and the general public that the necessary steps will be taken to clean the streets and arteries of the capital, once the means and the security conditions of its employees will be effective."

Municipal authorities are counting on the commitment and collaboration of all citizens to help them continue the efforts they have already made to ensure the cleanliness of the capital.
