Haiti - Social : Nine children removed from the hands of Haitian traffickers

Today, the authorities of the Dominican Republic have arrested eight people, four women and four men of Haitian nationality, which held prisoner nine Haitian children in a hotel and a house in the province of Dajabon on the border with Haiti.

A source of the special unit of border surveillance (Cesfront) has indicated that the minors, some very young, were rescued from traffickers. These children were probably intended to be used for work or begging in Santiago, the second largest city, without being able to specify how long the children were locked. The same day, in another operation conducted in a house located in the North of Dajabón, the authorities have released 4 other persons of Haitian origin. According to the police, the traffickers managed to escape before the intervention of the forces of order.

Juan Isidro Pérez, responsible for migration in the northern region and the border area with Haiti, has declared that the authorities are taking drastic actions against people, Haitian and Dominican, involved in smuggling and trafficking of Haitians in the Dominican territory.
