For the month of May 2018, the General Consumer Price Index (base 100 in August 2004) stood at 336.8 against 340.7 in April, posting a + 1.3% increase in inflation on a monthly basis, against 1.2% the previous month https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24513-haiti-economy-monthly-inflation-up-+12-april.html . Year on year (last 12 months) inflation reached 12.7% against 13% the month before a deceleration which is explained by the peak of 15.5% of May 2017.

This monthly increase of + 1.3% is mainly the result of the behavior of consumption indices: "Food, drinks and tobacco" (+ 1.3%), "Clothing and fabrics, shoes" (+ 1.6%), "Development housing equipment and maintenance "(+ 1.3%) and" Health "(+ 1.7%).

The upward change in the "Food, Beverage and Tobacco" index, which accounts for more than 50% of the household budget, stems, among other things, from the increase in rice prices (+ 1.9%) and average meat consumption ( + 1.8%), chicken (+ 1.3%), fresh fish (+ 2.7%), herring (+ 2.7%), peanut butter (+ 1.4%) ), coconut (+ 1.9%), banana (+ 1.4%), lilies, pumpkin (+ 1.8%), leek (+ 1.5%), cabbage (+ 1.5%), onion (+ 1.5%), yams (+ 1.7%), malanga (+ 1.6%) and potatoes (+1.8 %).

The rise in the "Apparel and Fabrics, Footwear" index comes from the variation in product prices such as: fabric (+ 2.6%), shirt (+ 1.6%), men's T-shirt (+ 1.6%), trousers for men (+ 2.1%), dress (+ 1.5%) and clothing (+ 1.9%).

The increase in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance" index comes mainly from the increase in living room furniture (+ 1.4%), curtains (+ 1.6%), insecticide (+2, 4%), laundry soap (+ 1.5%), disinfectant (+ 1.5%), wages of domestic staff (+ 1.3%) and dry cleaning (+ 1.3%).

Finally, the increase in the "Health" index is attributable to the increase in prices of medicines (+ 1.1%), fees paid to doctors (+ 2%), laboratory analysis, radiography (+ 1.2%) and hospitalization costs (+ 1.9%).
