Haiti - Social : France supports the program «Yon Fanmi Pou Chak Timoun»

For the year 2018, thanks to credits delegated by the Mission of the International Adoption of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Cooperation and Cultural Action Department of the Embassy of France in Haiti will spend 105,500 Euros to child protection actions.

These funds will be allocated to the "Yon Fanmi Pou Chak Timoun" program (a family for each child) of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR) to ensure compliance with the principle of subsidiarity provided by the Hague Convention of 1993 on the protection of children and cooperation in intercountry adoption.

Assistance to this Program consists of 2 components:

The first component aims to support the IBESR in the process of reunification of children with their biological families by assisting in the creation of income-generating activities, the setting up of a socio-educational support and the organization of sensitization workshops on children's rights, family planning and parental responsibility.

The second component will consist in maintaining the technical and financial support provided since 2014 by France for the implementation of the alternative placement in foster families with the aim of increasing the number of foster families and to ensure that children under three years of age are placed primarily in foster families.

These funds will also enable IBESR to hold a workshop with the 144 mayors of the country on their responsibilities for the protection of children. This action is complementary to France's support to local authorities. Finally, they will feed the implementation of a pilot project of birth registration for children deprived of parental protection in the South Department.

Recall that several projects run by civil society organizations to promote respect for children's rights, guarantee their recognition as citizens and educate them in citizenship are also supported by the Frace Embassy through the fund to support initiatives of the Southern civil society (PISCCA Fund): the project "a child, a Citizen"; the "Football and Citizenship" Project; the Project "Sport as an Education and Support Tool" and the "Awareness and Advocacy against Violence against Women and Girls" Project.
