Haiti - Social : National Day of the child in Haiti

As part of the National Day of the Child in Haiti celebrated the second Sunday of June this Sunday, June 10 the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR) launched this week a series of activities across the country.

Child protection fair, football tournament, talks, among others are some of the programmed activities, said Mrs. Arielle Jeanty Villedrouin Director General of IBESR, stressing the importance of this day, which offers the State the opportunity to honor the children and reflect on the problems they face.

Arielle Jeanty Villedrouin recalled that of the 754 orphanages identified in Haiti, 160 were closed by the IBESR because they did not meet the standards of care and standard, stating that 400 other orphanages are in an irregular situation and are exposed to the same penalties.

Mrs. Villedrouin advocates for shelters in place of orphanages and announced that the Government is currently working to establish a reception center in each department of the country to facilitate the care of children in need and avoid their migration to the capital.
