Haiti - Economy : Monthly inflation up +1.2% (April)

For the month of April 2018, the General Consumer Price Index (base 100 in August 2004) stood at 340.7 against 336.8 in March, showing an increase in inflation of + 1.2% on a monthly basis, against 1% the previous monthhttps://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24247-haiti-economy-monthly-inflation-+1-march-2018.html . Year on year (last 12 months) inflation reached 13.0% against 12.9% the previous month.

This monthly increase of + 1.2% is mainly the result of the behavior of consumption indices : "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 1.2%), "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" (+ 1.1%), "Housing Rent, Energy and Water" (+ 1.2%), "Accommodation Equipment and Maintenance "(+ 1.2%), "Health" (+ 1.6%) and "Leisure, Entertainment, Education and Culture" (+ 1.1%).

The upward change in the "Food, Beverage and Tobacco" index, which accounts for more than 50% of the household budget, stems, among other things, from an increase in meat prices on average (+ 1.7%) and chicken (+ 1.3%). %), fresh fish (+ 2.0%), herring (+ 1.8%), cod (+ 2.4%), coconut (+ 1.8%), avocado (+ 1.4%) , bananas (+ 1.4%), lilies, pumpkin (+ 1.7%), eggplant (+ 1.5%), cabbages (+ 1.4%), onions (+ 1.6%), yams (+ 1.5%), malanga (+ 2.0%), potatoes (+ 1.4%), real trees (+ 1.6%), oranges (+ 1.3%), chadèque (+ 1.5%) and lemon (+ 1.4%).

The rise in the "Apparel and Fabrics, Footwear" index comes from the variation in product prices such as: fabrics (+ 1.0%), men's trousers (+ 1.6%), t-shirts (+ 1.1%) and sandals (+ 1.5%). %).

The increase in the rent index for "Housing, Energy and Water" is attributable to the increase in the prices of rent for housing (+ 1.7%) and charcoal (+ 1.1%)

The increase in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance" index comes from the rise in living room furniture (+ 1.3%), the dining room (+ 1.1%), the mattress (+ 1.4%), linen of bed (+ 1.5%), curtains (+ 1.4%), groundwater (+ 1.3%), refrigerator (+ 1.3%), home-made stoves (+ 1.7%), insecticide (+ 2.2%) ), laundry soap (+ 1.7%) and dry cleaning (+ 1.7%).

The increase in the "Health" index is attributable to the increase in the prices of medicines (+ 1.8%), fees paid to doctors (+ 1.6%), laboratory analysis, radiography (+ 1.3%) and hospitalization expenses (+ 1.3%).

Finally, the increase in the "Leisure, Entertainment, Education and Culture" index is mainly due to the increase in the price of portable sound devices (+ 4.9%), televisions (+ 3.5%) and cinema (+ 6.3%).
