Haiti - FLASH : New military reinforcement at the Dominican border

Haiti - FLASH : New military reinforcement at the Dominican border

On Sunday during a surprise visit to the border, Dominican President Danilo Medina declared that the Government intends to fully implement Dominican law on the border and ordered the armed forces to add 900 soldiers to reinforce the coastal patrols in the area between Manzanillo and Puerto Plata, as well as Pedernales and Barahona.

With these new reinforcements and after those already deployed last March https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23724-haiti-flash-dr-new-military-reinforcements-long-range-uavs-and-cameras-on-the-border.html , the number of military personnel deployed now stands at 6,300 plus the men from the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (CESFRONT) and the Marine and Air Force units as well as the intelligence and migration personnel (DGM).

In addition, President Medina ordered the addition of 50 new all-terrain vehicles and three helicopters, to counter the penetration of illegal Haitians and to protect the security and sovereignty of Dominican territory all along the border.

"We will coordinate all the institutions working on the border: brigades of the army, the navy, the air force, the Corps specialized in land border security (CESFRONT) and the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) , so that they can apply the Dominican law on the border, "said Medina, adding that the government will refocus points where the largest number of Haitians circulate, as in Azua and Jicome.

In addition, he indicated that an additional fleet of drones will be deployed at the border, 30 officers having been specifically trained to use them. Recalling that for two months that the drones already deployed perform missions, they have largely proven their high efficiency."

In addition, a high-level government commission will have to submit in a few days a list of programs and actions to be implemented for the economic development of the border, which includes the creation of job-generating enterprises and to avoid reduction of the Dominican presence in the border provinces.
