Since the entry into force of the migration control of immigrants to Chile of Haitian and Venezuelan origin who now require a visa designed specifically for these two countries https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24055-haiti-flash-chile-requires-a-visa-for-haitians.html whose the number of migrants had increased significantly as a result of the economic, social and political crisis in these countries https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23276-haiti-flash-nearly-105-000-haitians-arrived-in-chile-in-2017.html ; the PDI (Policía De Investigaciones) announces to have noticed a 62% reduction of the Haitian migrants or 2,388 people in April 2018 against 6,300 the previous month.

According to the sub-prefect Claudio Soto, Head of the Department of Immigration and of tyeh PDI, the decrease of Haitians entering Chile, comes from the fact that there are no more charter flights from Port-au-Prince to airport of Santiago de Chile.

On the other hand, thanks to this visa granted to Venezuelan citizens because of the political crisis in this country, there was an 85% increase in Venezuelan migrants. Claudio Soto explains that this increase in entries to Chile is due to the fact that the new visa for this country, presents a lack of requirements to enter Chile, which encourages immigration.
