Haiti - Economy : Forecasting for Latin America and the Caribbean, Haiti lagging

The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has stated that for 2018 it maintains the same GDP growth forecast for Latin America and the Caribbean at 2.2% as in December 2017.

According to ECLAC, the Region should benefit from a greater economic stimulus than in 2017, when growth was barely 1.2%.

South American economies are expected to grow from 0.8% growth in 2017 to 2.0% in 2018, driven largely by Brazil, the region's largest economy, which will reach 2.2%. Economic activity is also expected to accelerate in Chile (3.3%), Colombia (2.6%) and Peru (3.5%).

For its part, Central America will increase from 3.4% in 2017 to 3.6% this year. Panama will lead Latin America with a growth forecast of 5.6%, followed by the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua at 5.0%.

The Growth of Haiti, which has set an ambitious target of 3.9% growth for 2018, is lagging behind the countries of the Region, but could according to CEPLAC, reach 2.0% this year

Recall that in 2017 GDP growth in Haiti was 1.2% (expected 2.2%), the lowest growth rate in six years https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23123-haiti-flash-gdp-2017-at-12-the-lowest-for-6-years.html
