Haiti - FLASH : The PNH launches the protection operation «Welcome to Haiti»

On Wednesday, following numerous complaints of aggression and theft, the National Police of Haiti (PNH) announced the launch of a pilot operation "Welcome to Haiti" which aims to ensure the safety of travelers and tourists of the Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

This operation set up by the Departmental Directorate West (DDO) of the PNH with the support of the Central Directorate of the Administrative Police, aims to reduce by 80% at least the cases of attacks and theft of passengers in areas close to Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

This operation of an initial duration of 90 days (April, May, June), will involve almost all the units of the PNH, including the Brigade of Operation and Intervention Departmental (BOID), the Corps of Intervention and Maintenance (CIMO) and the Departmental Maintenance Unit (UDMO).

Throughout the duration of Operation "Welcome to Haiti", all motorcycles will be prohibited from circulating around the Airport to Gérald Bataille, including the areas around the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police. The penalties for drivers who do not comply with this decision, may go from the seizure of their motorcycle to their arrest.

In addition, more frequent checks will now be made in and around the airport.

Travelers observing vehicles suspected or tracked by suspicious individuals or victims or witnesses of an assault, may call 3820 1111 and 3822 1111 to quickly obtain assistance from the PNH present in the area.

After this 90-day pilot period and after evaluating the results obtained, the authorities will take a decision on the continuation of this security program, which could become permanent.
