Haiti - Security : Customs Agents prohibited carrying weapons

In the context of the customs strike which is at its 9th day and following the instructions given to the National Police of Haiti (PNH), Heidi Fortuné, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, informs in a circular that "now, customs agents are not allowed to carry firearms; this, under any circumstances.

In addition, instructions are given to the High Command of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the various customs posts of the Republic.

This temporary measure is adopted in order to prevent any untoward incident likely to endanger public order."

Recall that the tension increased a little more when on instruction of Jude Alix Patrick Solomon, the Minister of Economy and Finance has made arrangements to unload refrigerated products and products for assembly plants with the help from the PNH. "Saturday we made arrangements to allow customs officers who want to work to do so. PNH officers occupy customs entrances to prevent untimely disruptions to those who put pressure on employees who want to work," said Minister Salomon.
