Haiti - Social : Every month the Government closes orphanages

Mrs. Arielle Jeanty Villedrouin, the Director General of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR) has announced the end of the process of re-evaluation of children's homes (orphanage) in Haiti.

Before the official communication of the results, she reminded that for nearly 6 years, the IBESR was fighting against the precarious conditions of institutional care, stating that there was not a month without the closure of orphanages. Nearly 160 institutions that did not meet government standards, have been closed so far and children supported.

Adding "Between 150 to 200 other orphanages will have to be closed by 2020 [...] In 3 years, the children's homes that will be in operation will have to be able to adequately meet the needs [...] in addition, they will have to be mostly transit centers and / or open centers."

During the last 4 closures of orphanages "Verettes", "Bon samaritain", "Albaihina" and "All Children Love Orphanage" a total of 116 children were taken care. In addition, the Notre Dame Nativity Center was recently put under control, a conservatory measure to control the direction of an orphanage and to deepen an investigation when there are insufficient clues and inconclusive denunciations for a closure.

Mrs. Villedrouin encourages her partners and those interested in Child Protection to direct the funds and donations towards family-oriented solutions, insisting that "the family is the privileged place for the integral development of children. "

Recall that according to a study by UNICEF and IBESR, 80% of children, who are in orphanages in Haiti, have been abandoned, but HAVE least one close relative, see a family https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-7685-haiti-social-80-of-children-in-orphanages-are-not-orphans.html

In addition, she announces that a moratorium on the opening of new houses is decreed after the official publication of the results of the re-evaluation of children's homes in Haiti.
