Haiti - Bizoton : 30,000 people have access to quality water thanks to the European Union

On Thursday, the European Union (EU) with Bizoton Communal Section Board (CASEC), the Association of Progressive Citizens for the Advancement and Reconstruction of the Country (ACPARP) and the César Foundation for the Weakest of Haiti (FCPFH), have closed a project for the supply of drinking water and sanitation in the localities of Fonds-brache, Grand-quail and Bel-air, started in May 2015 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-13980-haiti-reconstruction-things-are-moving-in-the-commune-of-bizoton.html

As part of the Civil Society Organization Support Program (OSC) and the local authorities of the European Union, this € 437,000 project funded by the EU will improve access to a drinking water of quality in the targeted areas, in particular by protecting and sanitizing the immediate environment of the water source of Chaud. The goal was also to reduce the water chore by reducing the distance to go to get drinking water.

In his speech, Vincent Degert, Ambassador of the European Union to Haiti, said "The project that we are closing today is fully in line with this approach and will improve access to quality water and a water system and sanitation for 30,000 people in the area."

In concrete terms, this project has made it possible to: capture the source of Chaud, the construction of 2 reservoirs and 4 water kiosks, the construction of a fence to secure the perimeter of the catchment, the erection of 5,000 cubic meters of dry stone thresholds around three gullies which threatened the site and the planting of 10,000 seedlings. In addition, 90 family latrines were built, along with family training in the management and maintenance of these latrines, as well as training sessions in participatory project management, community leadership and good governance to the benefit of 30 CSO representatives and seven local elected representatives.
