Haiti - Education : The Minister Cadet provides an update on the major issues of his Ministry

In the context of the Mondays of the Press, Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet, the Minister of National Education provided an update on major issues of his Ministry, in particular the appointment of teachers, the Universal Schooling Program, Free and Compulsory (PSUGO), the Nationalization Program for Community Schools (PRONEC) and school infrastructure.

Thus the Minister Cadet explained that at the economic level 90% of the teachers of the PRONEC and PSUGO program have already been paid. Of the 4,000 teachers listed in the education system without a letter of appointment, 2,000 were in the nomination phase after reviewing their files. Adding that after a process of purification, he undertook in collaboration with the Primature and the Office of Management and Human Resources (OMRH) to appoint all qualified teachers in the system.

On the sub-structural level, he said that 200 schools in the South and 20 schools in the West department have been rehabilitated. The reconstruction work of the Lycee Marie Jeanne and the Lycée des Jeunes Filles are being considered by the Ministry. The construction of 30 national schools (3 per department) is planned in the five-year term of President Moïse.

Structurally, he affirmed that the continuous training of teachers, the salary increase, the reform of curricula at the level of the program of the new secondary school where reforestation will be considered as a compulsory subject, the new technologies and a ten-year plan for the dynamization of the Haitian education system, are among others, concerns of his Ministry.

Finally, the Minister assured that his Ministry was in the last line for the resolution of the demands of the teachers [...] We congratulate the trade unionists who understand the essence of the main questions relating to the educational sector [...] The pupils do not must not be victims of the system."
