On Tuesday, the Bahamas army arrested 70 Haitian boat-people crossing the southern part of the island chain aboard a sailboat. According to the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, the migrants were located Monday night by a helicopter from the US Coast Guard, after being spotted the day before by a Bahamian patrol plane.

The military intercepted the 40-foot "Island Girl" sailboat east of Long Island in the southern Bahamas. Recall that nearly 50,000 Haitians in irregular migratory situation of the 70,000 living in the Bahamas, are threatened with eviction by this measure, according to estimates of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)
