Haiti - Politic : Extraordinary Meeting of the Superior Council of the National Police

Tuesday an extraordinary meeting of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) chaired by the Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant gathered together with the main officials of the Council, Dr. Agabus Joseph, Director General of the Office of Accident Insurance Labor, Sickness and Maternity (OFATMA), Jude Patrick Salomon, the Minister of Economy and Finance and Aviol Fleurant the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation.

The various points debated mainly concerned the strengthening of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and the improvement of the living conditions of the police officers through social benefits, payments of arrears and salary adjustments.

Jude Patrick Salomon confirmed that the salary update of the police officers who have obtained promotions will be effective from February 2018; on the other hand, these police officers will have to wait for the Amending Budget to benefit from the salary arrears of promotions. The arrears of the risk premiums are being finalized and the payment period will not exceed 15 days. Starting from the amending budget, funds will be made available to meet certain needs of the PNH in material resources and in the setting up of certain infrastructures.

Discussions also focused on the progress of the Hospital Center in Bon Repos, which will be used to provide care to PNH officers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21059-haiti-politics-follow-up-visit-of-the-hospital-s-work-for-the-police.html Aviol Fleurant explained that from its investment program, the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation will be able to release funds to finance the completion of the project and the purchase of equipment.

Referring to the Act of 28 August 1967 on occupational accidents, 3% of the payroll of the PNH will be paid to the OFATMA for the management of accidents at work and sickness in order to meet the benefits to the National Police of Haiti.
